Fearing increasing domestic protests and feeling the pressure from the international community and public opinion, the mullahs’ regime was forced to retreat and the confirmed death sentence for 26-year old Reyhane Jabbari was suspended.
The regime’s retreat takes place while a group of people had staged a gathering outside the regime’s judiciary in Tehran to save Reyhane’s life.
It is worth noting that the National Council of Resistance of Iran Women Commission issued a statement calling for her release.
Furthermore, Ahmed Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, called on the mullahs’ regime on Monday, April 14th, to stop Reyhane’s execution.
The UN Special Rapporteur in his statement said Reyhane Jabbari, an internal designer, is charged with killing a former Iranian regime intelligence agent in 2007 that intended to drug and rape her. Reyhane killed the man with a knife in self-defense.
There has not been a fair trial for Ms. Jabbari and her case must be reviewed once again, the UN Special Rapporteur says, because this murderer took place in self-defense.
There are serious concerns that Ms. Jabbari was forced to confess under torture and the court has not taken into consideration all the evidence, Shaheed said.
If the allegations raised by Jabbari are true, she may be victimized twice; once by the attacking individual, and again by the Iranian regime’s judiciary, he added, saying it is presumed that victims must be protected against physical attacks and sexual aggression.
The Iranian regime has executed more than 170 people in 2014, including two women, Shaheed added.
