Iran’s Supreme Court investigates the death penalty for Arzhang Davoudi

Arzhang Davoudi case sent to SC

The case for Arzhang Davoudi, a political prisoner sentenced to death in a lower court for his alleged political activities inside prison was sent to the Supreme Court and is supposed to be reopened for final judgment on Oct. 7th, 2014. According to report by campaign for defense of civil and political prisoners, Arzhang Davoudi’s case was transferred to the Supreme Court after the initial hearing at branch 1 of the ’Islamic Revolution Court.’ 
A source related to the case said the presiding judge will be judge Farajollahi and his two associates and they will either uphold the existing sentence of execution by hanging or would annul the case. 
Mr. Davoudi was sentence to death for allegedly supporting the PMOI/MEK. Arzhang Davoudi has so far spend more than 10 years in prison and is an old man. He was, at first, sentence to 20 years and 8 months imprisonment, but later was elevated to death by hanging. He is currently being held at ward 12 of Gohardasht prison.
