Iran: Appeal to save two hunger strikers in Orumieh and Gohardasht prisons

NCRI - The Iranian Resistance has called on the international community to save Kurdish political prisoner Alireza Rassouli, incarcerated in the central prison of Orumieh (north-west of Iran), and Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, a labor activist imprisoned in Gohardasht (a suburb of Tehran).
The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights bodies to take effective measures regarding the situation of political prisoners in Iran, especially the two hunger strikers who are in a perilous state.
The life of Alireza Rassouli is in danger after 47 days on hunger strike in protest at being denied medical care.
Mr Rassouli, who is suffering from cancer, is continuing his hunger strike despite the worsening of his condition.
Mr Alireza Rassouli was arrested in February 2013 for protesting at a tragic fire in which schoolgirls were burned in the village of Chinabad in Kurdistan province, and he has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
The state of Behnam Ebrahimzadeh has also deteriorated. He has been on hunger strike since December 2 in protest at his transfer to the section in Gohardasht prison used to house inmates convicted of non-political offences.
He fainted on December 21 after refusing to take liquids. The prison authorities also increased the pressure on him by refusing to provide him with warm clothing.
Mr Ebrahimzadeh, a labor activist, was arrested in June 2010 and sentenced to five years imprisonment in a show trial.
Furthermore, Section 59 political prisoners in Karoun prison in city of Ahwaz (south-west Iran) have been on hunger strike since December 21 in protest at the appalling conditions in detention and the inhumane pressures they are subjected to.
They are also protesting at the lack of medical care. They are demanding medical care for Sahraroudi Jaber, who is suffering from multiple sclerosis, and Kazem Khochnamak, who suffers from acute osteoarthritis.
