Iraqi MP attests right to access medical services for Iranians in Camp Liberty

Iraqi MP Dr. Fares al-Berifkani, Chairman of the Parliament Hygiene and Environment Commission said there cannot be differences placed between human beings in their right to access treatment and adequate hygiene for anyone living Iraq, abiding by Iraqi laws and protected under the constitution.
In response to a question on the sufferings Camp Liberty refugees are enduring in Iraq from lack of hygiene care and refusing to send them to hospitals, al-Berifkani said there must be no difference between patients. He added his insistence on following up on any case of an individual that has been denied of their right to medical care.
He said the doors of the Hygiene Commission are open to anyone in need of medical help and assistance, adding, “We focus our efforts under this framework to provide hygiene services for Iraqi citizens and anyone living in Iraq and abiding by its laws.”
It is worth noting that refugees in Camp Liberty have staged numerous rallies and sit-ins in their camp, protesting the siege imposed on them. In the past few years this blockade has prevented patients’ access to hospitals outside of the camp and led to the death of at least 24 patients to this day.
The residents of this camp have time and again called on international organizations and institutions to intervene and save other patients from chronic illnesses threatening their lives due to lack of medical care.
