Iran: Protest and strike of Safa Pipe Rolling Mill workers well in to its first month

 

The protest and strike of more than a thousand workers from Safa Pipe Rolling Mill in the city of Saveh, southwest of Tehran continue well in to its first monsth, demanding payment of 17 months unpaid insurance premiums and four months of backed up salaries.
But the Iranian regime arrested worker’s representative instead of positively responding to their rightful demands.
At 10 PM on May 16, security agents arrested him at his home accusing him of provoking workers of Safa Pipe Rolling Mill to go on strike.
Safa Pipe Rolling Mill has been occupied by striking workers since May 12, following false promises of employers and regime agents who refused to pay even one month of their unpaid wages.
According to the latest official figures a family of four people in Iran needs at least 3 million tomans to survive, because the official rate of poverty line in Iran is estimated at 2.5 million tomans per month (a Dollar is transacted at about 3300Tomans on the streets of Tehran).
However, the Iranian regime has set the minimum monthly wage of workers at 712,425 tomans – less than one-third of the official poverty line.
