The family members of four Americans long held captive in Iran stood before Congress on Jun 2, 2015 given their testimonies against the human rights abuse by the Iranian regime.
In their opening statements, each denied the Iranian allegations and described the dismal conditions in which the Americans are being held
Nagmeh Abedini said Saeed is doing “horribly, physically and psychologically” and suffered from internal bleeding from early beatings.
“I’m not just worried about his physical pain, but his psychological [pain],” Abedini said.
In each case, the U.S. government and family members of the imprisoned have challenged the allegations against the U.S. citizens and have called on Iran to release them.
“The detentions or disappearance of four Americans inside Iran are more examples of the Iranian regime’s horrendous human rights record,” Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce said ahead of the hearing. “Unfortunately, this is nothing new for the regime.”
