Iran: inhumane conditions for women in prison southeast of Tehran

Gharchak Prison in Varamin, southeast of Tehran
It has been over a week since sewage pipes have clogged in halls 5, 6 and 7 and the contaminated sewage has entered courtyard of Gharchak Prison in Varamin, southeast Tehran. The prisoners use these areas to get some fresh air. The stench of the sewage water has deprived them of such fresh air.
Regime authorities are actually taking advantage of such circumstances as means to torture the prisoners. Despite protests by the female inmates prison authorities are refusing to provide any answers to the inmates’ demands and resolve this major problem.
Another hygiene dilemma is that the prison’s trash is rounded up only once a month and the bags are held during this period adjacent to the prison store.
During the hot summer season the female prisoners are very much bothered by the stench of this trash piled up and have protested to prison authorities in this regard saying they literally are suffering breathing problems.
