Iran: Protests in the northern Iran city continue

Protests of a large fish market in the city of Sari, northern Iran

Merchants of a large fish market in the city of Sari, northern Iran closed partially or totally their stores at 8 am Tuesday, February 9th for nearly one hour. This was the second consecutive day that these storeowners staged such a strike.
Following a new law imposed by the regime for fishermen that has decrease their profits, many fishermen have gone on strike until this law is revoked or an article is added to provide a footnote that is in the economic interests of these fishermen, one of the storeowners said.
According to this law the fishermen must have registered fishing cards and pay certain fees as taxes.
This measure by the Iranian regime, under the pretext of preventing the presence of illegal hunters and fishermen, is actually aimed at extorting the fishermen, and therefore raised much anger amongst those involved in this business.
