Afghan worker in Iran shot after demanding payment


Afghans in Iran are routinely deprived of their rights as refugees and subjected to arbitrary abuse
A young Afghan worker in Iran has been shot after he demanded payment from his employer.
Muhibullah is in hospital for months with severe injuries after he was shot by a relative of his employer.
He left his country with his brother to seek job in Iran where he joined a fish farm in Mashad city six months ago.

And when he demands payment after a month of his work, he is targeted in gun attack by a nephew of his employer.
The victim’s father Essa Khan Nemati said he reported the incident to the authorities and that the perpetrator was arrested, “but he was released after a few days.”
The victim has been severely hurt in his stomach is under treatment in a hospital in Mashahad for five months.
He has undergone surgery for as many as nine times but is yet to recover.
His father said he could not afford to pay more for the doctors for his son.
There are almost 1 million registered Afghan refugees in Iran. Many go to the neighboring country in search of job.
However, there have been frequent reports of violence and discrimination against the refugees. In April, a 6-year-old Afghan refugee girl was brutally killed by an Iranian youth in Tehran.
The Human Rights Watch has said Afghans in Iran are routinely deprived of their rights as refugees and subjected to arbitrary abuse.
