U.S. House reauthorizes Iran sanctions bill, sets Syria sanctions
U.S. lawmakers passed bills on Tuesday renewing sanctions on Iran's regime for 10 years and imposing new sanctions on Syria, underscoring their determination to play a strong role in Middle East policy no matter who occupies the White House.
The House of Representatives voted 419 to one for a 10-year reauthorization of the Iran Sanctions Act, or ISA, a law first adopted in 1996 to punish investments in Iran's energy industry and deter the Iranian regime's pursuit of nuclear weapons.
The U.S. Senate will also vote to renew the sanctions on the Iranian regime before adjourning next month, the chamber's Republican leader said on Wednesday, sending the bill to the White House, where President Barack Obama is expected to sign it into law.
"We're going to take up the House bill," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters at the Senate's weekly Republican leadership news conference. "... And we're going to pass it."
The House also passed by voice vote on Tuesday a bill that would sanction the government of Syria, and supporters including Russia and the Iranian regime, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Iran: Due to Air Pollution, 412 People Died in Tehran in Less Than a Month
One of the members of Tehran City Council acknowledged on Tuesday November 15 that due to air pollution, 412 people have lost their lives in Tehran from October 22 to November 13.
According to IRNA state run news agency, Habib Kashani also acknowledged that “during the same period, many children have been afflicted with Autism, inflicting even more suffering on the families.”
The member of Tehran City Council added: “air pollution is not just limited to Tehran and now people in western and southern Iran have also been hurt due to dust and air pollution while no official is willing to accept the responsibility.”
The regime official described Tehran’s air quality during the past few days as “Chemical Air”.
UNGA Third Committee condemns Iranian regime's interventions in Syria with an overwhelming majority
The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution Tuesday, November 15, 2016, on "the grave deterioration of the human rights situation" in Syria, strongly condemning the terrorist interventions including by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps in that country.
The resolution adopted by an overwhelming majority of 115 against 15 opposing votes, indicates the international community's desire to end the clerical regime's interventions in Syria.
Article 24 of this resolution strongly condemns terrorist interventions in Syria by "particularly the Al-Quds Brigades, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and militia groups such as Hizbullah, Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq and Liwa’ Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas." The resolution "expresses deep concern that their involvement further exacerbates the deteriorating situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, including the human rights and humanitarian situation, which has a serious negative impact on the region."
In Article 25, the resolution also strongly condemns all attacks against the Syrian moderate opposition and calls for their immediate cessation, given that such attacks benefit terrorist groups and contribute to a further deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
The clerical regime's representative brazenly opposed the resolution and underlined the Iranian regime's determination to continue its criminal policies to fight and slaughter the people of Syria. (The state-run Fars News Agency, November 15, 2016)
