Rebellion in Hamedan, Mahabad and Greater Tehran prisons follow rebellions in Saqqez, Tabriz, Aligudarz, Khorramabad Prisons

Judiciary issues orders for crackdown

On Saturday night, March 28, 2020, prisoners in the Mahabad Central Prison rebelled and fled in protest against the mullahs’ mismanagement in dealing with the Coronavirus outbreak. The suppressive forces fired on prisoners, killing or wounding some prisoners, as parts of the prison were set on fire. The sound of gunshots and sirens was heard until well after the dark. Ali Akbar Grossi, Regime’s notorious prosecutor in West Azerbaijan, trying to prevent the spread of rebellion to other prisons in the province, claimed, “Thanks to the vigilance of prison guards, and inmates not joining the fugitives, calm restored very quickly.” “Prisoners benefit from all the facilities they need,” he insisted.

Hours before Mahabad, prisoners at the Alvand Prison rebelled, and some managed to escape. The IRGC and prison guards opened fire on prisoners, and parts of the prison were set on fire.
On the same day, a large number of women went on a hunger strike in the Urmia Central Prison, which began after a prisoner died of Coronavirus. So far, several prisoners have died of Coronavirus in that prison.
On Friday, March 27, inmates at the Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh Prison)- Brigade 1 rebelled and clashed with prison guards. The situation in Fashafouyeh is horrendous. Due to crowding, many prisoners are sleeping on contaminated floors. The only hygiene is dishwashing liquid. To date, several prisoners have died. Also, inmates in Khorramabad’s Parsilon, Aligudarz, Tabriz Central, and Saqqez Prisons have rebelled, and many have escaped.
Following the escape of at least 80 prisoners from Saqqez, at a meeting with the commander of the SSF (State Security Force) and a group of judicial officials, the Judiciary Chief Ibrahim Raisi ordered the prosecutor’s office to arrest the fugitives immediately and to deal with the perpetrators decisively. Meanwhile, Mohammad Jabari, regime’s criminal prosecutor in Kurdistan, while acknowledging the public’s support of the fugitive prisoners, warned: “Anyone help to hide or provide the fugitives with the means to hide or run away, will be prosecuted and dealt with accordingly.”
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), once again warned of a major catastrophe and crimes against humanity in Iranian prisons. She called for urgent action by the Secretary-General, the Security Council, the Human Rights Council, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the European Union to take measures to secure the release of all prisoners, especially political prisoners to saving their lives.
