Iran: Coronavirus Catastrophe – Fatalities Exceed 140,600 in 462 Cities

  • Minoo Mohrez, member of the scientific committee of the National Coronavirus Task Force: “Had Tehran been locked down even for a few weeks in the past months, the chain of virus spread would have been very weakened, and we would not be witness to the high number of deaths and increasing hospitalizations. Why is the Government opposed to a lockdown? It believes that a lockdown would cause problems for the Government. Health should be sacrificed for the sake of the economy. Patients are sleeping in hospital corridors and connected to ventilators. Some hospitals no longer have any Oxygen.” (Entekhab daily, November 2, 2020).
  • Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Task Force: “Some 10,700 Coronavirus patients went to hospitals in Tehran yesterday. So far, 6,250 have been hospitalized.” (IRNA, November 2, 2020).
  • Acting Chair of Alborz Province’s Medical School: “With 32 deaths in the past 24 hours, Coronavirus marked the darkest day in the Province yesterday.” (IRNA, November 2, 2020).
  • A member of Mashhad City Council: “Hospitalizations have reached 2,000. It is estimated that it will reach 5,000. We do not have the capacity for so many hospitalizations in the city.” (IRNA, November 2, 2020).
