Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 486 Cities Exceeds 219,700


 Iraj Harirchi, Deputy Health Minister: The very aggressive British COVID-19 has entered Khuzestan from the borders. The number of outpatients has risen from 200 to 3,500 per day, and hospitalizations have increased from 100 to 1,100 per month. (Mehr news agency, February 22, 2021)

  • Ahvaz Hospitals: The number of COVID-19 referrals to hospitals is increasing minute-by-minute. Hospitals are full, and the virus transmission is so high that Khuzestan Province treatment system will suffer significantly. We therefore demand a two-week lock-down of the Province.   • Ahvaz Governor: Ahvaz hospitals are full of COVID-19 patients. The ICU wards are full, and the mortality rate has risen. (ISNA news agency, February 22, 2021)
  • Health Ministry: Given the circulation of the mutated COVID-19 in Khuzestan and several other provinces, this trend’s continuation will be catastrophic in the country. (IRNA, February 22, 2021)
  • West Azerbaijan University of Medical Sciences: The Taleghani Hospital in Urmia is full, and we have to add another hospital to provide services to COVID-19 patients. (IRNA, February 21, 2021)
  • Gilan and East Azarbaijan Universities of Medical Sciences announced the advent of the British Coronavirus in these provinces. (IRNA, February 22, 2021)

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Monday, February 22, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 486 cities across Iran had surpassed 219,700. The number of victims in Tehran is 52,371, Isfahan 14,165, Khuzestan 11,210, Mazandaran 9,262, Lorestan 9,073, East Azerbaijan 8,273, West Azerbaijan 8,178, Gilan 7,851, Kerman 4,874, Yazd 4,037, and Hormozgan 2,375.
