Iran, April 5, 2021—Over 244,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 535 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, April 5. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 63,332 around a fourth of the actual figure.
The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 56,191 in Tehran, 15,905 in Isfahan, 15,745 in Razavi Khorasan, 14,474 in Khuzestan, 10,410 in Mazandaran, 9773 in East Azerbaijan, 9148 in West Azerbaijan, 8551 in Gilan, 6295 in Golestan, 6058 in Alborz, 5394 in Kerman, 5073 in Markazi (Central), 4260 in Semnan, 3678 in North Khorasan, 3022 in Ardabil, 2645 in Zanjan, 2464 in Bushehr, 2371 in South Khorasan, and 1960 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.
“Today we have 96 cities and towns, meaning 21 percent of the countries 448 cities and towns, added to the registered red or orange zones. Seven provincial capitals are red zones, and six provincial capitals are orange zones,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Monday. “As of today, the cities of Tehran, Karaj, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ilam, Shahre-Kord and Zanjan are designated as red zones. The mutated virus has engulfed the western parts of the country and is spreading further in the north and eastern areas. In the past we would see a step-by-step increase, right now the numbers are increasing far more drastically. As we speak, we have 88 red cities and towns, 139 orange, 198 yellow and 23 blue,” he added, according to state TV.
“All hospitals will be on high alert and should not get involved in non-emergency measures. 300 to 600 people are being hospitalized each day and 5,500 people are seeking medical attention for Covid-19 symptoms each day,” said the deputy chair of Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.
“During the past 48 hours we have been stunned. The number of people who need to be hospitalized is extremely high. We need to accept the fact that we have entered a serious crisis,” said the chair of Tehran’s Shariati Hospital on Sunday. “It is truly catastrophic. We could not believe that we have reached such circumstances. We thought if there is a new peak it would not be that serious. However, what we have seen in the past 48 hours has been horrific. We will surpass the numbers see in the third wave and we need to prepare for enormously difficult days,” this official added, according to state TV.
“We have a 250 percent increase in the number of people entering our hospitals in comparison to March 21; the number of people being hospitalized has increased while the number of those who can be released has decreased,” said the dean of Mazandaran Medical Sciences University on Sunday. “This increasing trend is extremely concerning and the number of people seeking medical care for coronavirus symptoms has soared tremendously. This is also true for the number of people being hospitalized and those who are testing positive,” this official added, according to state TV.
“The number of people hospitalized today has doubled in comparison to March 20 when this figure stood at 385. We now have 180 in ICUs. Our medical professionals and hospitals should expect extremely difficult days ahead,” said the deputy dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
The deputy governor of West Azarbaijan province said on Monday, “There are currently 660 hospitalized patients, 67 of whom are in ICU. In the past 24 hours, 15 people have lost their lives and the total number of deaths has reached 3,802.” (Source: Mehr News Agency)
The spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences university said on Monday, “Isfahan, Kashan, Shahin Shahr, Meimeh, Lenjan, Golpaygan, Boein Miyandasht, Khansar, Faridan, Najaf Abad, Falaverjan, and Samiram are extremely dangerous red zones. On Monday, the dean of Zahedan Medical Sciences University reported a threefold increase in the number of hospitalized patients in the past five days and said, “The confirmation of 134 UK strain virus indicates that the virus has spread across the province.”
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), offered her sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the coronavirus outbreak and stressed that the new wave of COVID, which is claiming more and more victims every day, is the result of the criminal policies of the mullahs’ regime, and before anyone else, the regime’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, is responsible for these deaths. On the one hand, Khamenei has cruelly banned the import of the American and British vaccines, while on the other he has hijacked billions of dollars’ worth of the people’s wealth through his economic institutions, and he has done nothing to help workers and other impoverished segments of the society to provide their basic needs during the coronavirus outbreak. Mrs. Rajavi stressed that while this regime rules, the Iranian people will not be safe from floods, earthquakes, and diseases. Mrs. Rajavi called on all Iranians to help the people who have been hit by the coronavirus outbreak.
