Teachers, Educators Protests Continue Across Iran

 NCRI - Today, Saturday, 29 January 2022, teachers and educators across Iran held protest gatherings and sit-ins at their workplaces. The protesters that included employed as well as retired teachers demanded the full implementation the “teachers ranking,” plan for employed teachers, the implementation of salary adjustments for retired teachers based on inflation and prices of basic needs, and the fulfillment of their other demands.

The nationwide sit-ins are being held on a pre-announced call by the country’s teachers and is scheduled to continue on for the next 10 days. A nationwide protest rally is scheduled to be held across Iran on Monday.

Protesting teachers held signs reading:

We heard promises, we did not see justice.
We stand together until victory.
Prison is no place for a teacher.
We do not tolerate all this oppression and discrimination.
The imprisoned teachers must be released.
Just education for the country’s students.
Seeking rights is not a crime.

On December 15, 2021, the clerical regime’s parliament drafted a bill entitled teacher’s “Teachers Ranking,” which, even if implemented, would not have met the minimum demands of teachers. The teachers described the bill as a dagger to the ranking bill and vowed to continue their protests.

On December 23, 2021 teachers and educators rallied in more than 100 cities across Iran to protest the clerical regime’s oppressive policies and the parliament’s adoption of the bill.

The protests continue despite intimidations by the regime that included describing their rallies as a “security threat” and that are being carried away and controlled by the “enemies of the state” to pave the way for more suppression.
