Iran: protest by thousands of Isfahan residents against drying of Zayandeh Rood

Thousands in Isfahan protest drying of the river

Thousands of residents of Isfahan, central Iran, braved official threats and intimidations on Wednesday to stage a demonstration on the dry bed of the river protesting the drying of the grate Zayandeh Rood. They gathered near the historic and ancient bridge called ’33-bridge’ which was built some 4 centuries ago over the Zayandeh-Rood River and is now a recreational place for people to congregate. But due to the drying of the river caused by government’s inaction and incompetence, has mostly been abandoned.
Some of the protesters were wearing black cloths, a sign of mourning holding placards reading 'where is my river.' They expressed their anger at the government’s inaction and incompetence for deliberately drying the river.
