Iran, August 30, 2020—Over 96,900 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 409 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Sunday afternoon local time, August 30. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 21,462, around a fifth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 23,545 in Tehran, 4693 in Mazandaran, 4369 in Isfahan, 4217 in Lorestan, 2718 in Fars, 2298 in Kermanshah, 1553 in Kerman, 1534 in North Khorasan, 1251 in Markazi (Central), 834 in Qazvin, 825 in Ilam, and 610 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

While regime officials and experts express concerns over the further spread of Covid-19 due to this month’s annual religious ceremonies, mullahs’ President Hassan Rouhani expressed his gratitude to the Health and Interior ministers for the fact that these events were held while fully abiding by health.

“Those who went travelling during the recent holidays should not allow any negligence in health protocols result in a new rise in Covid-19 cases,” he said in an obvious attempt to blame the upcoming increase in Covid-19 cases on those who did not attend the religious ceremonies. Through these remarks one can specifically conclude that even the regime’s own officials are forecasting a significant rise in the Covid-19 crisis in the coming weeks and months due to the mullahs’ disastrous policies. Therefore, they are already paving the grounds to place the blame on the people and sway attention from those who organized the state-run religious ceremonies.

According to the semi-official ISNA news agency: “Six months after the coronavirus outbreak was officially acknowledged, the province of Tehran is in a code-red situation. One of the important issues these days is the spread of the virus through polluted waste. This is while the head of the human environmental office has said that there is still no plan by the municipality to allocate separate bins for masks, gloves and other protective gear. Coronavirus-infected waste are dumped in and collected from public garbage bins.”

In Khuzestan province, the dean of Abadan Medical Sciences University reported an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in southwest Khuzestan, according to Javan Daily, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). “In the past two days, 370 coronavirus patients were admitted to treatment centers in southwest Khuzestan, which is an increase in comparison to the past two-three weeks,” the dean said.

The caretaker of Jondishapur University in Ahvaz warned about the growing trend of coronavirus cases and hospitalized patients in Khuzestan, ISNA reported on Saturday. “There are growing worries about the increase of coronavirus cases and hospitalized patients in future days,” the caretaker said. “In the past two days, we’ve witnessed an alarming increase in the number of hospitalized patients. The persistence of the current conditions will push Khuzestan province back into dangerous conditions.”

Twenty-two people are in critical conditions,” the spokesperson said.
