A correct policy on Iran is overdue

Most students of Physics 101 have been exposed to a well-known thought experiment called “Schrodinger’s Cat.” In this experiment, renowned Danish physicist Erwin Schrodinger illustrates an absurd feature of quantum theory that allows a hypothetical cat to be both be alive and dead at the same time. This, however, is impossible, a paradox. Sadly, Schrodinger’s dead-and-alive cat may just be the best illustration of the West’s contradictory policy toward the Middle East and most particularly, toward Iran.
In Syria, the Obama administration simultaneously opposes and supports Bashar Assad. While calling for Mr. Assad’s removal, billions of dollars from the U.S.-brokered nuclear deal with Iran helps bolster the dictator’s chances of survival. Indeed, without Tehran’s sustained support, the Syrian state as we know it might have crumbled long ago, denying ISIS a fertile breeding ground. That might well have happened as world oil prices plummeted, making it economically almost impossible to continue pouring cash into Syria to help Mr. Assad, but the new influx of cash from the nuclear deal has revitalized Iran’s ability to resume and actually increase both its training and material support for Mr. Assad.
Meanwhile in Iraq, the administration insists it supports an end to the vicious sectarian violence that has claimed thousands of American lives and trillions of American dollars while it tacitly endorses the Iranian regime’s dispatch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Qods Force fighters, money, training and command structure to Iraq to presumably fight ISIS. But this adds fuel to the fire, as ISIS grew out of sectarian violence in Iraq actively fomented by Tehran in the wake the U.S.-led invasion and subsequent withdrawal. Since Iraq’s Sunnis hate the Iranian regime far more than ISIS, Iran’s involvement in Iraq further enhances ISIS recruitment.
Indeed, nowhere are the inherent contradictions of current U.S. policy in the region more pronounced than in Washington’s policy toward Iran itself. Washington seems simultaneously against human rights violations in Iran and willing to tolerate whatever the regime does. In July, the administration condemned Iran’s human rights record and made some money available through the State Department to fund pro-democracy and human rights programs in Iran, but turned around and let billions of dollars of unfrozen funds pour into the coffers of a regime that, according to human rights groups such as Amnesty International, is slaughtering and imprisoning its own people at a “staggering pace.”
The U.S. State Department lists Iran as the world’s No. 1 state sponsor of terrorism. It is the primary patron to Hezbollah, Hamas and Syria’s dictatorship. Yet the same State Department has legitimized the Tehran regime in the eyes of the world through diplomacy.
Although not as widely reported in the United States as one might expect, Tehran’s mullahs continue to launch missiles into Iraq targeting the Iranian dissidents who have taken refuge at Camp Liberty, Iraq — the latest of which took place just last month, claiming the lives of 24 residents. The State Department issues boilerplate condemnations when these attacks occur, but has thus far failed to live up to repeated commitments it has made regarding the safety and security of the residents of the camp.
The nuclear deal now in place will do little if anything to change Iran’s long-term behavior. It will not declaw the regime that to this day considers the United States to be the “Great Satan.” The day after the deal was struck, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that Tehran would continue to support its “friends” in the region, adding that Tehran’s Mideast policy is diametrically opposed to the goals of the United States. It’s been four months since the deal was made between Washington and Tehran, and during that time the regime has intensified domestic suppression while deepening its involvement in the war against the Syrian people. A month into Russian airstrikes, Tehran’s state-run media have reported 50 deaths among Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp personnel, half of them senior officers.
To most independent observers, U.S. policy toward Iran and the wider region seems confused. It’s as if the United States either has no real policy or is pursuing different and incompatible goals in a region more complicated and interconnected than it knows. This is hurting the United States in the region. World leaders wonder what Washington is really trying to accomplish, but it has even worse consequences for the millions of people in the region suffering under the yoke of dictatorships or as targets of terrorism.

France paid homage to 130 victims of November 13 terrorist attacks

France paid homage Friday morning to the 130 victims of the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris with a solemn ceremony at the Invalides monument in the centre of the city.
The ceremony, attended by some 2,000 people, including France’s leaders and families of those killed. Some of the injured from the attacks arrived in wheelchairs or stretchers.
Paying homage to the victims, Hollande said the country would not be cowed by the acts of terrorists. He said: “They (the terrorists) will fail. They cultivate death, but we have love for life.”
He called the violence an act of war “in the name of a mad cause and a betrayed religion.”
Hollande also said France would not seek “revenge” for the attacks. “France sticks to its principles of hope and tolerance,” he said.
People across the country displayed the French flag outside their homes to show their solidarity during the ceremony, something Hollande had earlier called upon them to do.

Iranian regime’s masquerade in Iraqi Parliament against Camp Liberty residents

Hirelings disguised as family members of Camp Liberty residents were taken to Iraqi parliament in ludicrous theatrics organized by Iranian regime’s embassy and Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Camp Liberty residents
A delegation of European, U.S. and Arab lawyers and parliamentarians ought to visit Camp Liberty
NCRI - In complicity with an infamous agent of the Qods Force, Abbas Albayati affiliated with Nouri al-Maliki, the Iranian regime’s embassy in Baghdad and the Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Camp Liberty residents headed by government’s security advisor Faleh Fayyaz, arranged for a group of regime’s Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) and Qods Force hirelings disguised as the residents’ families to visit the parliament of Iraq on Tuesday, 24 November 2015, in an obvious attempt to take advantage of meetings with a number of legislators, including Messrs. Hamam Hamoudi and Arshad Salehi. The measure is intended to repeat the regime’s fabrications against Liberty residents and pave the way for future massacres.
The next stage of this theatrics was the convening of a meeting on November 25 at parliament’s Human Rights Commission, together with the suppression committee, dubbed “Supreme Committee of Camp Hurriya [Liberty] at the Prime Ministry”. In this meeting, according to the website of Parliament of Iraq, the “requests of relatives” of the residents and “their wish to see their children” in Camp Liberty “was put forward for the adoption of necessary measures by the government to arrange this visit” and moreover, “it was agreed that the file of Camp Hurriya be presented to the upcoming sessions of the parliament”.
Admission of elements of regime’s intelligence at the parliament of Iraq and forming a committee and issuing directives for them in just 24 hours comes at a time that almost a month after the heavy missile strike on Camp Liberty the Iraqi government even prevents entry of construction machinery to the camp to collect the destroyed trailers and debris and clean up the camp and it obstructs entry of the minimum security imperatives, as well as rudimentary items to repair the damaged facilities and equipment.
The Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Camp Liberty residents that handles the issues regarding Camp Liberty with Parliament of Iraq receives its orders directly from the Iranian regime embassy in Baghdad and the terrorist Qods Force. The seven massacres against Ashraf and Liberty that led to the martyrdom of 141 residents and the cruel 7-year siege of residents that has caused the death of 27 other residents have all been perpetrated under the supervision of this committee and its head Faleh Fayyaz. Criminal officers such as Sadeq Mohammed Kadhim, Ahmed Khozair and Haidar Azab Mashi that have all been directly involved in these massacres are under the command of this committee.
These suspicious histrionics are unfolding while on November 23, the letter of over 400 families of Camp Liberty residents in the United States and European countries has been published where the residents wrote: “despite our repeated application for entry visa to Iraq through various embassies in countries of our residence, Iraq has refused granting permission to enter that country…
“In these circumstances, dispatched teams of the mullahs’ Intelligence Ministry to Iraq and to Camp Liberty under the cover of so-called families of the residents have no problem entering Iraq and get through to the Camp. The mission of these teams is psychological torture of our children and relatives and been financed entirely by the Iranian regime. Based on past experience and notably the attack on October 29, proves that these activities are prelude to yet another bloodbath, this time in Liberty.
The letter adds: “We strongly urge you to call on the Iraqi Government in every way possible to grant entry visa to us to go to Camp Liberty to see our beloved children and relatives after so many years.
“The Government of Iraq, Prime Minister al-Ebadi, the US Government and the United Nations must recognize and safeguard the rights of Camp Liberty residents and maintain their security and prevent the Iranian regime's agents approach the Camp.”
Time and again, residents have announced to the United Nations and the U.S. officials that they do not consider hirelings sent to Camp Liberty to psychologically torture them their family and they consider relating these paid hands to them as an unacceptable insult. This is while many families of the residents inside Iran are arrested, tortured and even executed because of contacting their children. These hirelings are the same elements that were psychologically torturing the residents with 320 loudspeakers for 23 months in 2010 and 2011 and who chanted: “We shall turn Ashraf into rubble and spill blood here and we shall hang you…”
The Iranian Resistance calls on the presidency of Parliament of Iraq and the legislators who wish for an independent Iraq not dominated by the Iranian regime to condemn the presence of these hirelings at the parliament and not to allow the Iranian regime and its Iraqi proxies to turn Parliament of Iraq into a tool to justify the next slaughters of the Iranian refugees that are under international protection.
If the issue of Camp Liberty is to be discussed at the parliament, then the agency to look into it is surely not the suppression committee whose officials have to stand trial for crime against humanity. At such a session, residents’ lawyers and representatives, the representatives of 4000 legislators from Europe and U.S., and the representatives of Arabic parliaments should present the file of crimes against humanity perpetrated against the residents by the Iranian regime and its proxies in Iraq (by individuals such as Maliki and Faleh Fayya) to the parliament.
Moreover, the Iranian Resistance calls on the Iraqi government to agree to a visit to Camp Liberty by representatives and lawyers of the residents inside and outside Iraq, representatives of 4000 parliamentarians at the International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ), representatives of the International Committee of Jurists in Defense of Ashraf (composed of 8500 jurists), the Arab Delegation in Defense of Ashraf, the Arab-Islamic Committee in Defense of Ashraf headed by Sid Ahmed Ghozali former Prime Minister of Algeria, parliamentary groups in defense of Ashraf at the European Parliament, British Parliament, U.S. Congress, and parliaments of Canada and European and Arab countries, along with representatives of parliament of Iraq, so that they assess the situation with adequate time and speak in private with the residents and to present their report to pertinent international agencies and the public. Anyone not looking to implement Iranian regime’s wishes and having Liberty as a prison and slaughtering its residents will surely welcome this suggestion that ensures respect for the principles of human rights, refugee rights, and the international conventions.

The mullahs’ regime has executed 11 people since the adoption of UN resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran

Iran executions

The cycle of suppression, in particular collective executions, continues after the adoption of a resolution by the Third Committee of the General Assembly on November 19. Since then, at least the execution of 11 prisoners has been registered in a deadly trend that traverses all of Iran and is used to breed terror and horror and prevent the explosion of the wrath of a fed up population.
On Tuesday morning, November 24, the Iranian regime hanged Alireza Shahi, a 25 year old prisoner, along with four other prisoners in Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr) Prison despite calls by international  agencies . He had been in prison for seven years since age 18.
On the previous day, two prisoners were executed in Tabriz central prison. Four other prisoners, including a female prisoner by the name of Hajar Safari, were also executed on November 12 in this prison.
On Saturday, November 21, regime’s henchmen hanged three Baluchi compatriot prisoners in Zahedan central prison. On that day, a 25-year-old prisoner by the name of Mehdi Boudineh was executed in Zabol central prison.
Execution of a prisoner in Miandoab prison and a Pakistani prisoner by the name of Mohammad Younes Jamal-e-dini at Zahedan Central prison were carried out on November 18. These executions, together with the hanging of another four prisoners in Karaj Central Prison were among the other crimes perpetrated by the Iranian regime in the past two weeks.
During this interval, the transfer of group after group of prisoners on death row to solitary confinements continues, including in Miandoab Prison. Some of the prisoners have been transferred to Gohardasht solitary cells for the second time. Taking prisoners to the gallows to watch the hanging of other prisoners is one of the common tortures practiced in the prisons of this antihuman regime.
These criminal executions, particularly a few days after the adoption of a resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran, bespeaks of the confrontation of the Iranian regime with the international community and it amplifies the need to refer the file of human rights violations in Iran to the UN Security Council. Trade with a regime that transgresses against all international norms and standards must be made contingent upon a cessation of barbaric punishments, especially the capital punishment.

UN must urge Iraq to grant visa to families of Iranians in Camp Liberty

H.E. Ban Ki-moon
Secretary-General of the United Nations
The United Nations
New York, NY 10017
Dear Secretary General,
As a group of Camp Liberty residents' families residing in Europe and the United States, we are gravely concerned about the lives of our children, especially after the rocket attack on October 29 that killed 24 of the residents.
During 2003-2009, when the US forces held the responsibility of security of Camp Ashraf on the ground, many of us had the opportunity to travel to Ashraf and stay there for an unlimited period of time and see our children. But since the time the US government unlawfully turned the security of our children over to the Pro-Iranian regime government of Maliki, despite our repeated application for entry visa to Iraq through various embassies in countries of our residence, Iraq has refused granting permission to enter that country.
This is while our children and relatives are recognized as protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention and have been interviewed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and they are recognized as people of concern protected under international law.
Our loved ones were transferred from Camp Ashraf to Camp Liberty, supposedly a Temporary Transit Location, to be relocated to third countries within few months. Yet, after 3.5 years they are under unbearable pressures in the camp and they have not been resettled. The Iraqi Government has virtually turned the camp into a prison.
In these circumstances, dispatched teams of the mullahs’ Intelligence Ministry to Iraq and to Camp Liberty under the cover of so-called families of the residents have no problem entering Iraq and get through to the Camp.
The mission of these teams is psychological torture of our children and relatives and been financed entirely by the Iranian regime.
Based on past experience and notably the attack on October 29, proves that these activities are prelude to yet another bloodbath, this time in Liberty.
In years 2010 and 2011 the same type of agents under the same cover as "families" camped on the perimeters of Ashraf for 23 continuous months psychologically torturing the residents using 320 loudspeakers, cursing and threatening them to death. These agents threatened loudly through the loudspeakers "We shed your blood on Ashraf soil, we execute you one by one..."
It is very unfortunate that the very basic rights of our loved ones are being violated at the behest of the mullahs' regime in Iran which has been going on for more than 6 years. Currently an inhumane medical and food siege is imposed upon them. They are deprived of meeting their lawyers. In 6 deadly attacks 120 had been killed and 27 lost their lives due to medical siege.
We strongly urge you to call on the Iraqi Government in every way possible to grant entry visa to us to go to Camp Liberty to see our beloved children and relatives after so many years.
The Government of Iraq, Prime Minister al-Ebadi, the US Government and the United Nations must recognize and safeguard the rights of Camp Liberty residents and maintain their security and prevent the Iranian regime's agents approach the Camp.
Respectfully,
Families of Camp Liberty residents
