Assad used chemical weapon 8 times in April in Syria, UN panel

Evidence of chemical attack on civilian by Assad regime
Evidence of chemical attack on civilian by Assad regime

United Nations report says that Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons eight times in April in attacks in northern Syrian villages.
The report by an independent U.N. commission investigating war crimes in Syria said it believed chlorine, dispatched in barrel bombs, was the agent used on multiple occasions.
'There are reasonable grounds to believe that the chlorine has been dropped, particularly in barrel bombs from helicopters belonging to the government authorities. So the finger points there,' said commission member Vitit Muntarbhorn, a Thai professor who has investigated human rights in North Korea.
The commission also emphasized that Assad’s government forces continue to perpetrate crimes against humanity through massacres and systematic murder, torture, rape and disappearances.
The report also highlighted mock crucifixions, public executions, amputations and the beheading of children by ISIS in parts of Syria.
The report said that public executions were a common sight in the areas controlled by the ISIS and in some instances, there is enough evidence to believe that civilian population was targeted deliberately.

Iranian regime acknowledges inmates killed by smoke inhalation in Sharh-e Kord prison fire

Three weeks after at least eleven Iranian inmates were killed in a prison fire, the Iranian regime has acknowledged the cause of their death had been smoke inhalations.
Mansour Firoozbakht, the head of forensic medicine in Charmahal & Bakhtiari province told the state-run IRNA news agency the inmates died of "smoke inhalation and suffocation due to lack of occasion."
"The corpses of the inmates were given to their families for burial after examination made," he said.
The incident in Shahr-e Kord prison on August 4 happened after the warden ordered a number of prisoners to be punished in a bid to terrorize the inmates who had staged a strike for several days to protest the inhumane living conditions at the prison.
In solidarity with their striking cellmates other prisoners set fire to several mattresses. Instead of putting out the fire, however, prison authorities locked the prison doors and prevented outside help, including efforts by fire-fighters to to knock down a wall to save the prisoners.
The warden and prison guards then left and abandoned the prisoners to be engulfed by the flames.
That evening, the regime’s intelligence officials issued secret orders to the mayor and the General Director of the city's fire fighting organization to censor reports on this atrocity.
After the incident, the Iranian Resistance’s President-elect called for the dispatch of an international fact-finding mission to investigate the catastrophic living conditions of prisoners in Iran.
She said: "This unprecedented atrocity is just one example of the calamities the murderers ruling Iran have imposed on prisoners for many years. The barbarians ruling Iran should be shunned by civilized nations and should face justice for their countless atrocities."

Iran: Protest by thousands of miners enters 12th day

For the 12th day, thousands of miners and members of their families continued their protest in the central city of Bafgh demanding the release of detained workers.
The protest by the workers at Bafgh Iron Ore began on August 19 following the arrest of a number of workers for their role in a protest in May that lasted for 40 days.
The mine is located in the city of Bafgh in province of Yazd. The workers and their families form half of the population of the city.
In May protest, the worker wanted the plans for transferring 28.5 percent of the mine's share to private sector be cancelled and the profit from the shares be spent on improving the living conditions in the city.
Striking workers also had demanded the resignations of the mine's director and that workers receive job security guarantees.
The May strike ended when the governor of the province promised their demands would be met within 2 month.
The deadline has been reached while none of the workers demands have been met.
The protest by some 5,000 workers is one of the largest workers protest in recent years in Iran.

Thousands in Isfahan protest drying of the river

Thousands of residents of Isfahan, central Iran, braved official threats and intimidations on Wednesday to stage a demonstration on the dry bed of the river protesting the drying of the grate Zayandeh Rood. They gathered near the historic and ancient bridge called ’33-bridge’ which was built some 4 centuries ago over the Zayandeh-Rood River and is now a recreational place for people to congregate. But due to the drying of the river caused by government’s inaction and incompetence, has mostly been abandoned.
Some of the protesters were wearing black cloths, a sign of mourning holding placards reading 'where is my river.' They expressed their anger at the government’s inaction and incompetence for deliberately drying the river.

UN: Syrian crisis is the biggest humanitarian emergency of era

"The Syrian crisis has become the biggest humanitarian emergency of our era, yet the world is failing to meet the needs of refugees and the countries hosting them," Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said in a statement.
According to the figures by United Nations, three million Syrian refugees will have registered in neighbouring countries as of Friday. The figure is one million refugees more than a year ago.
The vast majority remain in neighbouring countries, with the highest concentrations in Lebanon (1.14 million), Turkey (815,000) and Jordan (608,000), the UNHCR said. Some 215,000 refugees are in Iraq with the rest in Egypt and other countries.
In addition, the host governments estimate that hundreds of thousands more Syrians have sought sanctuary in their countries without formally registering, the agency said.
Increasing numbers of families arrive in a shocking state, exhausted, scared and with their savings depleted, it said. "Most have been on the run for a year or more, fleeing from village to village before taking the final decision to leave."
"There are worrying signs too that the journey out of Syria is becoming tougher, with many people forced to pay bribes at armed checkpoints proliferating along the borders.
Refugees crossing the desert into eastern Jordan are being forced to pay smugglers hefty sums (ranging from $100 per person or more) to take them to safety," it added.

US must honor its pledges to protect Iranians in Liberty, former UN ambassador demands

The US should honor its promise to protect defenseless Iranians in Camp Liberty, and ensure that the new Iraqi government prevents any further aggressions against them, a former Untied Nations ambassador has demanded.
Ken Blackwell was speaking ahead of the first anniversary of the massacre of 52 members of the Iranian Resistance in Camp Ashraf on September 1, 2013.
He described the tragedy as 'one of the worst examples of America's failure to protect' in recent history.
Writing in the news website The Patriot Post, he said: "Fifty-two people lost their lives in a massacre perpetrated by Iraqi forces under the command of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri-al Maliki and under the direction of the exceptionally anti-democratic regime in Iran.
"All of them died in possession of documents signifying the broken promise of protection that had been offered to them by the United States.
"The Camp Ashraf Massacre targeted Iranian dissidents, members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, the principal Iranian resistance movement who had been living in exile in Iraq since the 1980s, conducting the struggle for a democratic homeland from abroad. The victims were all ‘Protected Persons’ under the Geneva Convention.
"Most of them were handcuffed, identified and then executed with a bullet in the head. All of the individuals had signed an agreement with the US, guaranteeing their safety and protection until their final disposition."
Many Iranian dissidents around the world lost friends and family in the bloodbath who could have been saved if the US had kept its promise, he said.
And now, 3,000 other members of the Iranian Resistance continue to remain in grave danger in Camp Liberty, Iraq, under conditions like those of a concentration camp, he wrote.
He added: "Since the end of the US engagement in Iraq, Iran has steadily exerted more and more influence on the government in Baghdad, as well as the Shiite terrorists roving the country.
"With that Iranian support, Nouri al-Maliki amplified the sectarian conflict in his country, shutting minorities out of the government and ultimately setting the stage for the rise of ISIS.
"And through all of this, democratically-minded Iranian dissidents have been watching the walls of the mullahs' influence closing around them, waiting for their long-promised relocation to the United States or some other peaceful nation.
"That promise has simply been broken, just as the promise to them was broken when they were given Protected Persons Status by the State Department, but then abandoned to the whims of the Maliki regime.
"All freedom-loving Americans should urge our government to pursue a comprehensive Middle East policy that serves our national ideals and security.
Such a policy would involve, first and foremost, willingness to confront the most oppressive regimes about their violations of human rights and their crackdowns on political dissent.
"Conversely, that policy ought to provide the support that we have sometimes mistakenly withheld from organized forces for democratic change both inside and outside of those countries."
The US must now demand the new Iraqi government prevent and stop any aggression against camp Liberty and stop daily restrictions against the residents on medical services, medicine, fuel and logistics, Mr Blackwell said.
And Baghdad should recognize the rights of the residents for freedom of movement and should declare its readiness to allow independent investigations by the United Nations on the massacre of September 1, 2013, cooperate with the UN Human Rights mechanisms and hand over the perpetrators to meet justice, he said.
And he added: "When it comes to refugees at Camp Liberty, the US not only has moral obligation, it has legal and contractual commitments to them.
"As a former ambassador to the UN Human Rights Commission, I urge President Obama and his congressional colleagues to mark the anniversary as a turning point, whereby we commit to making good on our promise to the freedom fighters of Camp Ashraf (now in Camp Liberty).
"We can no longer turn a blind eye to the government ordered killings and violations of human rights.
"With the sorts of challenges that the worldwide struggle for freedom faces today, neither the West nor the Middle East can afford to wait for the second anniversary."

Iraq: For 17th day food, medicine and fuel blockade against Iranian refugee camp continued

NCRI - At the behest of the Iranian regime, for the 17th day, the Iraqi forces of Nouri al-Maliki stationed in Camp Liberty, obstructed the entry of fuel, food, medicine and other essential items to the camp near Baghdad that houses Iranian refugees.
Since the Government of Iraq does not allow the Camp Liberty’s electricity network to be connected to the city's grid, all systems in the camp such as kitchens, refrigerators, food freezer containers, lighting, air-conditioners and cooling systems, and black water systems all work with the electricity generated by camp’s electric generators.
As fuel reaching the camp has been interrupted, all these systems have ceased or are about to cease to function.
The air-conditioners and cooling equipment are not working and residents are tormented as they live in metal containers in 48 degrees Celsius temperatures. Every day, a number of residents suffer heat stroke. Residents are facing great difficulty in cooking their food.
Depriving residents of food, medicine and fuel is blatant case of crime against humanity.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government who have committed themselves repeatedly and in writing to the health and security of residents to compel the Iraqi government to immediately raise this anti-human siege and provide free and unconditional access of residents to food, fuel, medicine and medical services.
The international community should not be silent in face of crime against humanity to allow another human catastrophe to unfold in Camp Liberty.

U.S. targets entities violating sanctions against Iranian regime

The United States on Friday sanctioned more Iranian and other foreign companies, banks, airlines and individuals for violating sanctions, working to expand the regime's nuclear program, and supporting terrorism.
U.S. officials said it was sending a signal that there should be no evasion of the sanctions while international talks continue.
The Treasury Department said it was targeting individuals and companies for violations including helping Iran's missile and nuclear programs, evading prior sanctions or supporting terrorism.
"Treasury's action against over 25 entities and individuals, who are involved in expanding Iran's proliferation program, supporting terrorism in the region and helping Iran evade U.S. and international sanctions, reflects our continuing determination to take action against anyone, anywhere, who violates our sanctions," Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen said in a statement.
In a parallel move, the U.S. State Department imposed sanctions on four firms it said were helping Iran's nuclear program, as well as Goldentex FZE, a UAE-based firm working with Iran's shipping sector, and an Italian firm, Dettin SpA, which it said was working with Iran's petrochemical industry.
The Wall Street Journal reported: "Senior U.S. officials said Friday's measures are mainly designed to prevent Iran and its partners from evading sanctions that are still on the books and as a deterrent against support for terrorists and the Assad regime. The latest steps are allowed under the so-called joint plan of action with Iran, a product of the nuclear talks, officials said."

Iran: Men bound and humiliated in public before being charged

NCRI - Photos of the degrading treatment of Iranians men being pulled through streets with their hands tied have been published on the regimes state-run news websites.
The harrowing images showed the arrested men suffering the humiliating ritual at the hands of police in the northern city of Sari even before they had been charged with any crime.
Every year, tens of thousands are arrested in the streets for 'offences' such as wearing T-shirts that are too tight or 'immoral' hair styles.
So-called offenders are often punished with public flogging or humiliating parades to create an intense climate of fear among the public.
Violations of human rights in Iran including public executions and amputations have intensified since Hassan Rouhani became president more than a year ago.

Iraq's new leader must halt Iranian regime's 'reign of terror' in Iraq, US statesmen demand

The US must push for a more inclusive government under new Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi that will destroy the Islamic State's momentum and put a halt to Iran's reign of terror in the region, two leading American statesman have demanded.
Al-Abadi must no longer be Tehran's puppet to carry out Iran's 'dirty work' or exploit sectarian divisions to the political advantage of Iran's mullahs, former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean wrote in the Chicago Tribune.
A strong stance by Iraq's incoming leader will also erode Tehran's leverage in nuclear negotiations with the West, they said.
They wrote: "For years, the al-Maliki government pushed Iraq to the brink of civil war by exploiting sectarian divisions for political advantage. With the departure of American troops in 2011, al-Maliki, backed increasingly by Shiite Iran, adopted policies that alienated large segments of the population.
"Those policies paved the way for the rise of extremist, terrorist Sunni groups like Islamic State and eroded whatever allegiance to the government existed among the Sunni-dominated thin green line charged with protecting the people.
"Only an assertive US stance that calls for an inclusive and independent Iraqi government can stop the cycle of sectarian bloodshed.
"With the introduction of a new prime minister-designate, Haider al-Abadi, Washington has an opportunity to ensure that all of Iraq's diverse political voices are embodied in a democratic political order. Iraq's diversity on the ground must be reflected in its government."
The most important first step for al-Abadi is to end Iran's 'ubiquitous meddling', Mr Ridge and Mr Dean said.
They added: "Iran moved to consolidate its influence in Iraq under al-Maliki by coercing the judiciary and Shiite blocs there to support a second term for their client, even though his faction lost the election in 2010.
"Generals in Tehran then assembled al-Maliki's Cabinet, as Ali Khedery. Al-Maliki returned the favor by showing no hesitation to massacre defenseless Iranian dissidents gathered in Iraqi camps Ashraf and Liberty.
"Repeated deadly and unprovoked attacks against members of the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq left more than 100 dead and thousands injured, helping Tehran in its quest to eliminate a pro-US, democratic opposition group."
With the help of Iran's Quds force, al-Maliki brutally repressed popular protests across Iraq hunted down tribal leaders, made arrests and carried out executions, all with Tehran's complicity, they said.
They wrote: "That reversed the gains made in 2007, when Sunnis played the most crucial role in driving al-Qaida out of Iraq. It also demonstrated the kind of brazen sectarianism that gave rise to the Islamic State.
"The course of action now is clear: The U.S. must push for transition to a more inclusive government that would give voice to the Sunnis, tribes, moderate Shiites and other minorities.
"In adopting a firm diplomatic policy, the US will not only bolster its damaged reputation in the region, it will destroy the Islamic State's momentum by ending Sunni alienation from Iraqi politics. Likewise, in advocating for new and inclusive leadership, Iran's reign of terror in Iraq will be greatly diminished.
"Tehran will no longer have a puppet to carry out its dirty work next door. It will also lose important leverage in its nuclear negotiations with the West.
"The manner in which al-Abadi's new government deals with Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty will be a litmus test for his attitude toward Tehran.
"If he deals with the dissidents in accordance with Iraq's commitment to the United Nations, international law and their human rights, he will give strong indication that the new government is serious about charting an independent path for Iraq, one that puts national interests above sectarian divides."

Iranian regime and ISIS, and the joint element linking them

By: Allameh Mohammad Ali al-Husseini
Confronting the issue of the terrorist group ISIS, which has been recently thrust into the international media following the fall of Mosul in Iraq, cannot be achieved without
eroding its pillars of support that allowed this phenomenon to emerge.
The emergence of the regime in Iran after the 1979 revolution that was hijacked by extremist and fundamentalist mullahs was a key turning point in the growth of religious fundamentalism in the region and the world, and the beginning of an abnormal period in provoking and reviving religious fundamentalism and sectarian beliefs under the cover of faith.
Many were deceived by the portrayal of the regime in Tehran as the savior and liberator of Arab and Muslim people.
From its very beginning, the mullahs’ regime relied on the policy of imposing itself through force and compelling the Iranian people to adhere to its fanatical and fundamentalist viewpoints. It started with the arbitrary arrests of its opponents, throwing them in prisons, aggressive campaigns against women and mass executions. We will refer to specific cases.
What Sadeq Khalkhali (Chief of the Revolutionary Courts in Iran who earned title of 'the hanging judge') did was not rooted in the spirit of Islam, but in humiliating people and insulting them like Iran’s vultures and issuing sentences against anyone who opposed the mullahs’ regime.
The punishments of flogging, burning women’s faces, amputating fingers and noses, gouging out eyes, stoning and executing pregnant women took place without remorse, as well as bombings, assassinations, terrorist and horrific measures, were all blamed on their fabricated enemies. All of these examples created a climate of fear and horror that enchained all Iranians under this regime.
The terrorist ISIS organization has carried out unprecedented criminal acts, and those with even the slightest knowledge of the pure religion of Islam must be completely opposed to this group and its crimes which are in total contrast to the principles and values of Islam.
ISIS’ actions are very similar to those of the mullahs’ regime. Both rely on the policy of terrorizing and horrifying others, and compelling them to remain in a state of anxiety and instability.
This suggests there are secret channels of communication channels between ISIS and the mullahs’ regime. It also suggests ISIS is the offspring of the two dictatorships in Syria and Iran.
Their illegal and criminal acts and the climate of fear they impose on the areas they control are no different from the criminal acts of the mullahs’ regime, where its Quds Force has no objective other than to annihilate peace, security and stability in the region.
Fundamentalism and the crimes of the mullahs’ regime in Iran do not represent the Shiites, just as the fundamentalism and crimes carried out by ISIS do not represent the Sunnis. Therefore, Islamic countries in general and Arabic countries in particular must take a stand against the fundamentalism represented by the mullahs’ regime in Iran and ISIS.
We also call for a flourishing of moderate scholars to to help defeat the scheming of the mullahs’ regime and ISIS.
We in the Islamic-Arabic Council are ready to take all necessary steps to achieve this, and we are prepared to coordinate, share and help in all efforts that can maintain our nations’ security, stability and well-being, and also defeat the plans, agendas and plots of the mullahs’ regime.

Iran: Amnesty International urges action to save Mohammad Ali Taheri

Amnesty International has issued an Urgent Action demanding action to save "prisoner of conscience Mohammad Ali Taheri, who has spent over three years in solitary confinement in Section 2A of Evin Prison in Iran’s capital, Tehran."
The rights group said that he has been "threatened with death by interrogators. He is serving a five-year prison sentence on a charge of 'insulting Islamic sanctities', in relation to his spiritual beliefs and practices."
"Mohammad Ali Taheri, founder of a new spiritual group in Iran called Erfan-e-Halgheh, was arrested on 4 May 2011 by officials linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and held incommunicado for nine months in Section 2A of Evin Prison."
According to Amnesty International, "Mohammad Ali Taheri has been serving his prison sentence entirely in solitary confinement and his repeated requests to be transferred to a cell shared with other inmates have been denied, leading him to undertake at least seven hunger strikes and attempt suicide four times. Except for a six-day period of leave in March 2013, his interaction with the outside world has been limited to brief bi-weekly visits from his wife in a 'cabin' (behind a glass screen) and limited telephone calls, both of which have stopped since his wife was arrested on 2 July 2014 for a period of two weeks."
