Bandar Abbas political prisoner seriously ill on day 8 of hunger strike

A political prisoner in Iran's Bandar Abbas prison is entering his eighth day of a hunger strike in protest at his transfer to a squalid wing used to house drug addicts.
Hossein Javani – who was a political prisoner in the 1980's – is now suffering from headaches, weakness and low blood pressure.
He transferred to a section of the prison where addicts are held after he refused to pay a large sum of extortion money demanded by prison chief Bahram Keshtkar.
The prison's Section 2 is packed with 200 drug addicts in just 15 rooms, and minimal sanitary facilities, forcing some prisoners to sleep in hallways.
Mr Javani was in prison for ten years in 1980s for supporting the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). He now has difficulty walking normally due to torture during this period.
He was arrested again on December 16, 2012, and sentenced to 10 years in prison and exile to Bandar Abbas prison for supporting the PMOI. He was transferred from Ward 350 of Evin prison to Bandar Abbas Prison on 16 February 2013.
