Two Azerbaijani men given life sentences for spying for Iranian regime

A court in Azerbaijan has handed out life sentences to two men charged with spying for Iran, APA news agency reports from Azerbaijan. The Baku Court for Grave Crimes charged the two men with “betrayal of the Motherland.”
The investigators in the case said that it had been revealed that Hafiz Valiyev and Agamir Agamirov had collaborated with representatives of Iranian spy agencies in Azerbaijan.
The trial itself was held behind closed doors, and so no more details of the case have been made public.
This is not the first sentence Azerbaijan issued for those accused of spying for Iranian regime. In 2012 Baku arrested several men who authorities said had links with Iran and were plotting an attack within Azerbaijan
