Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 458 Cities Exceeds 127,100

Regime’s Health Ministry puts the death toll at 337, an unprecedented leap in the past 24 hours

• The figures by the Health Ministry for the fatalities in the past 24 hours is twice the highest number of deaths in the first wave of the Coronavirus outbreak, i.e.158 deaths on April 16 and about one and a half times the highest number of deaths in the second wave, which was 235 deaths on August 7, 2020. • Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) in Tehran: In the third peak, the patients are in worse condition. They need to stay longer in the hospital. 20 to 25% of daily patients need special medical care upon arrival. (IRNA, October 19, 2020)
• Nader Tavakoli, deputy head of NCCT in Tehran: The situation in Tehran is very bad. 5,300 patients with Coronavirus are hospitalized, which is a disaster. We do not have an empty bed, and the medical staff are under pressure. (Mehr news agency, October 19, 2020)
• Head of Khomeini Hospital Complex: The mortality rate in the past ten days has been unprecedented in the past eight months. We had not experienced such high fatalities before.
• Alborz University of Medical Sciences: With 14 new deaths in Alborz, the total Coronavirus death toll in the province has reached 1,445.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Monday, October 19, 2020, that the Coronavirus fatalities in 458 cities had exceeded 127,100. The number of victims in Tehran is 30,501, Khorasan Razavi 9,577, Khuzestan 8,003, Isfahan 6,664, Lorestan 5,488, Qom 5,350, Gilan 4,966, East Azerbaijan 4,509, West Azerbaijan 3,588, Alborz 3,498, Fars 3,336, Kurdistan 2,271, Yazd 1,841, Central Province 1,742, Bushehr 1,505, Qazvin 1,233, Zanjan 1,205, Ilam 1,054, and South Khorasan 964.

The spokesperson for the regime’s Health Ministry put the death toll at 337 in the past 24 hours, an unprecedented record in the state-engineered statistics. The figure is more than double the highest number of fatalities in the first wave of the outbreak, i.e.158 deaths on April 4, and about one and a half times the highest number in the second wave, i.e.235 deaths on July 28, reported IRNA, today. Meanwhile, according to the same news agency, today, Iraj Harirchi, the regime’s Deputy Health Minister, announced more deaths and said, “We called for the restrictions to continue until Coronavirus is fully under control.” He added, “According to the statistics that will be published in the next few days, we request the restrictions be intensified.”
