Iran: calls for release of activist Nargis Mohammadi

It has been some time since the arrest of civil and human rights activist Nargis Mohammadi. Her arrest has raised numerous condemnations from various human rights organizations across the globe. The Denmark Pen Association and Nobel laureates have demanded her release. In Iran Dr. Mohammad Malaki, a former Tehran University dean, and Gohar Eshghi, mother of Sattar Beheshti – blogger murdered by security agents under torture in Iran – also called for Mohammadi’s release.

In the city of Nahavand, more than 200 people rallied outside the plundering institution of ‘Tolu Hadian’, protested the fact that their money was stolen by regime officials. Security agents attacked the protesters, which they resisted and more than of them were arrested in this gathering.
On Saturday, July 25th workers of the Ports and Maritime Office in the city of Astara (northern Iran) protested the regime’s refusal to extend their contracts. They also demanded job security.
In West Islamabad a group of people in the Nur complex protested the regime’s refusal of providing them the homes they have paid for.
In Tehran a group of women rallied outside the Iran Volleyball Federation and protested the restrictions imposed by the mullahs’ regime on women being banned from entering sports stadiums.

Tehran bus drivers syndicate: we condemn arrest & beating of teachers

July 25, 2015The Tehran bus drivers syndicate issued a statement expressing their solidarity with the teachers’ movement and condemned their beating by Iranian regime authorities.
The statement reads:
While millions of workers from Rome and London and other countries of the world are on strike to get their rights, and protests staged by metro workers and pilots have caused problems for the people and paralyzed daily lives, unfortunately in our country we are facing the most intense and security measures against syndicate protests. The latest such example is the widespread arrest and beatings of protesting teachers in our country on July 22nd.
The Tehran bus drivers syndicate condemns the repressive measures against the protests staged by hardworking teachers, and we see it as human rights violations. This syndicate once again demands the release of all protesting teachers and other imprisoned laborers, and calls for an end this unacceptable status.

Crackdown in Iran leads to young women committing suicide

The result of crackdown and restrictions imposed on women and their most fundamental rights is an increase in suicide rates in Iran’s society. Recently 3 young women have committed suicide in the cities of Piranshahr, Bukan and Sardasht. A 21-year old woman by the name of ‘Chaveri Gh.’ ended her life by hanging herself.
A 24-year old woman by the initials of ‘S.V.’ in Piranshahr committed suicide and another young woman by the initials of ‘S.K.’ from the city of Bukan threw herself off the rooftop of an apartment building and died instantly.

3 renowned science orgs: Iran prisoner must be released

Three renowned and prestigious scientific organizations from across the globe called for the release of Mohmmad Hossein Rafi’i, a member of the Council of National-Religious Activists and a retired professor of Tehran University. He was arrested on June 16th by security forces in a street in Tehran and sent to prison.
The American Chemical Society, being the largest scientific society in the world with more than 185,000 members, expressed deep concerns regarding Rafi’i’s arrest without any clear charges. In its letter this organization called for adequate medical are, being allowed to have regular visits with family members and his legal lawyer.
The Committee of Concerned Scientists expressed also deep concerns in a letter on Rafi’i’s arrest. This committee is an independent organization comprised of scientists, physicists, engineers and graduates. They focus their activities on enhancing human rights and scientific freedoms across the globe.
The National Academy of Sciences, a non-profit private organization, of which nearly 500 members are Nobel laureates, have told the Rafi’i family in their letters they have expressed concern about the conditions of his detention and current health, and demanded his unconditional release.
Ana Rafi’i, the daughter of Mohammad Hossein Rafi’i had said previously in an interview that with more than 1 month passing without any information it is still not clear on what charges her father was arrested and held in detention. The incarceration was carried out under direct orders from Tehran public prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dowlat Abadi. 

70% of all prisoners in Iran are under 40

Asghar Jahangir, head of the Iranian regime’s Prisons Organization said 70% of all prisoners in this country are under the age of 40.
Iran under the mullahs’ rule is known to have millions of judiciary cases, along with skyrocketing executions, torture behind bars, and known as the biggest prison for reporters and bloggers.

Iran: 3 hanged in western city

The state-run Baztab daily reported citing Ilam Province judiciary chief saying, “Three individuals were hanged on rape charges. The identities of these men were provided as A.K., R.A. and N.Sh., all hanged in Ilam Central Prison.” 
The number of executions in Iran under Hassan Rouhani is reaching the 2,000 mark, reports indicate.

Two death row prisoners have also been transferred to solitary confinement in Minab Central Prison in preparation for their executions. These two individuals are identified as Amir and Gorandish, both from Sistan & Baluchistan Province.
