Iran beefs up security around Khamenei’s compound following nuclear announcement

NCRI – The Iranian regime has drastically stepped up the presence of suppressive security forces around the compound of the regime’s Supreme Leader in Tehran following the announcement on Tuesday of a deal with the major world powers to curb its nuclear program in return for the lifting of international sanctions.
Special units have been stationed in the Pasteur district where Ali Khamenei’s compound is based.
Since Tuesday there has also been a heightened presence of suppressive security forces and anti-riot patrols in other sensitive parts of the capital.
Suppressive security patrols have been stationed in key areas including Azadi Square, Enqelab Square, Imam Hossein Square, and the Mossaddeq Intersection.
Anti-riot forces have been also stationed in Manouchehri Street, Istanbul Intersection, and Vali-Asr Square.
About 10 security forces on motorbikes are stationed in each of the streets in the vicinity, and patrols are controlling the area.
Special units have also been placed to protect the state broadcasting corporation in the capital.
On Tuesday Iranian opposition leader Mrs. Maryam Rajavi said in a statement that despite many shortcomings and unwarranted concessions to the mullahs, the nuclear deal struck between P5+1 and the Iranian regime represents a reluctant retreat by Khamenei and a violation of his ‘red lines.’
Mrs. Rajavi said such a retreat will shatter Khamenei's hegemony within the regime and weaken and undermine the ruling religious fascism in its entirety.
“The retreat, which regime officials have described as a ‘chalice of nuclear poison’, will inevitably aggravate the power struggle at the top, upset the internal balance of power to the detriment of Khamenei and permeate the entire regime hierarchy. As such, in a nutshell, one can describe this nuclear agreement as a lose-lose outcome as far as its substance and structure are concerned,” Mrs. Rajavi added.
Addressing the Iranian people, who have been the prime victims of the ruling religious dictatorship, Mrs. Rajavi said: The time has come to hold the anti-Iranian regime accountable and to rise up to overthrow the mullahs' illegitimate regime and establish a free, democratic and non-nuclear Iran.
