According to HRANA, there are increasing concerns about the health of imprisoned blogger, Mohammad Reza Pourshajari (a.k.a Siamak Mehr). He is currently held in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, and several sources have reported that his health is in serious danger.
His daughter, Mitra Pourshajari has told HRANA, “The other day [prison authorities] transferred my father to the prison clinic for medical examinations, and they announced that they plan to inject him with a needle in an attempt to open up his [blocked] arteries. But, without surgery my father does not stand much of a chance. He could suffer [from another] heart attack any day.”
Due to his deteriorating health and the fact he has already suffered one heart attack in prison, Mr. Pourshajari is in urgent need of heart surgery at a hospital outside the prison. However, Iranian regime authorities have refused to consider Mr. Pourshajari as a prisoner who is “unsuitable to tolerate imprisonment” even though his medical record with the prison states that he is unable to withstand imprisonment and requires medical leave.
Mitra Pourshajari continued, “Last month prison authorities (Amjadi, Nejad Bahram) had signed on the form that stated my father is “unsuitable to tolerate imprisonment” and requested his release from prison. However, the prison Judge and the Prosecutor refused [the request].”
In regards to her father’s health, Mitra Pourshajari added, “The two main arteries leading to his heart are completely blocked and his other arteries are not [functioning properly] either.”
Two weeks ago, Justice for Iran released a case summary statement to express concern for Mr. Pourshajari’s health and call on the international community to help ensure he is immediately and unconditionally released from prison.
