Iran: 86-year old prison in dire physical conditions

86-year old inmate in Rajaie Shahr Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran
Hassan Taffah, an 86-year old prison held in Rajaie Shahr Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran, is suffering from severe fatigue due to blood cancer, reports from inside Iran obtained on Thursday indicate. His physical conditions are reported as extremely dire.
Mardani, warden of Rajaie Shahr Prison, is refusing to send this patient to receive medical care despite the fact that he has a case registered in the prison clinic.
It is worth noting that Hassan Taffah remains behind bars despite the fact that a year ago a ruling was issued saying he can no longer tolerate prison conditions. Prison authorities are blocking his release, medical leave or even being sent to a hospital.
Taffah was arrested by security agents back in 2008 and “Judge” Salavati of Tehran’s Branch 15 revolutionary court condemned him to 15 years behind bars on charges of propaganda against the state.
