Spanish Parliament – Session at the Human Rights Commission with Iranian Resistance President-elect Maryam Rajavi
On Tuesday, December 18th, Iranian Resistance President-elect Maryam Rajavi visited the Spanish Parliament, delivering a speech at a session of the Human Rights Commission.

“The religious fascism ruling Iran built its illegitimate rule based on all-out crackdown, misogyny, religious segregation, and exporting terrorism and fundamentalism, all on the blood of over 120,000 members of the Iranian Resistance during these 34 years. The waves of executions continue to create a climate of fear and prevent popular uprisings. In January of this year, Amnesty International reported thousands are on death row in Iran.

“Under pressure imposed by Iran, Maliki’s government has made a prison out of Camp Liberty, while the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in its second report assessed the conditions at Liberty as similar to a prison and detention center. This is while they are protected persons under the framework of the Geneva Conventions and the UNHCR has recognized them as asylum seekers and people of concern who must enjoy fundamental protections.

“The mullahs’ regime sees its existence in danger facing widespread popular discontent in Iran. The anger that poured people into the streets in the uprisings of 2009 and 2010 has not decreased today. In fact, it has actually increased, and along with the regime’s economic bankruptcy, the impact of international sanctions, enormous rifts dividing the regime’s most senior ranks, the nuclear program dead-end, and the down-falling trend of the mullahs’ ally in Syria, all are preparing the grounds for the mullahs’ toppling.

“The following are the necessary elements of a correct policy vis-a-vis Iran that must be adopted by the US and European Union, including Spain.
1. Conditioning further political relations with this regime to stopping all executions and torture of prisoners.
2. Iran’s human rights dossier must be referred to the UN Security Council.
3. The security and protection of Iranian Resistance members in Iraq must be provided for and guaranteed, and the UN must specifically recognize Liberty as a refugee camp.”

Following Mrs. Rajavi’s speech, the Chair and members of the Spanish Human Rights Commission expressed their solidarity with the Iranian Resistance and added they will call on the Spanish government to take specific action against human rights violations in Iran.
Members of the Human Rights Commission stressed upon the necessity to recognize Liberty as a refugee camp and the Ashraf and Liberty residents’ rights being assured.
