Iranian regime sets up gallows in public across the country to intensify atmosphere of fear and repression

On Thursday, December 27, Iranian regime’s henchmen hanged five prisoners in Mehrvarzi Park in southwestern city of Yasuj and another prisoner in northern city of Semnan.
The announced executions by the clerical regime during the past three weeks include:
One prisoner in northern city of Sari on December 25, seven prisoners in the central prison in of Isfahan in central Iran on December 20, one in central city of Kashan on December 17 , three prisoners in western city of Orumieh on December 16,   one prisoner in Semnan on December 17,  three prisoners, including a citizen of Pakistan in the central prison of Zahedan in southeastern Iran on December 8, and four other  prisoners including a woman on December 3.
During the same period the regime’s henchmen also have handed down at least six death sentences for prisoners in western city of Salmas.
On November 10, Shouresh Aldo, a 35 year old Kurdish political prisoner, hung himself in prison in eastern city of Mahabad because of the harsh prison conditions and the tortures suffered.
Faced with increasing domestic and international crises, the Iranian regime is using executions to intimidate people to prevent public protests in cities across the country.
The Iranian Resistance calls on international bodies particularly the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and the UN Special Rapporteur on arbitrary arrests, to take immediate steps to stop torture and executions in Iran.
