Iran: municipality workers, auto expo owners hold protest rally

Karaj municipality workers protesting

A group of municipality workers rallied in various areas of the city of Karaj, west of Tehran, in the morning hours of Wednesday, November 11th, going on strike and demanding employment security. There are no permanent contracts for these workers.
“The municipality is able to fire us from work whenever it wishes, and this has taken place many times in the past few months when nearly 50 workers were expelled from work under the pretext of balancing the number of laborers.”
The angry workers were also protesting how they have not received their wages for the past 3 months and 2 months in the last Iranian calendar year.
Auto exhibition owners close down facing bribes by traffic patrol agents
Tehran traffic police intended to bribe auto exhibition owners in Tehran by fining them and transferring their parked vehicles outside of their exhibitions. However, they face stiff resistance from the exhibition owners.
The owners closed their doors and scuffles erupted with traffic police.
Prior to this new taxes were issued to us for these specific purposes, and they intended to use the area outside of the exhibitions, the exhibition owners said, adding state agents are demanding too much.
It is worth noting that during the past few months exhibition owners in Abbas Abad in Tehran have protested extortion measures by the municipality.
