Rohrabacher Condemns Missile Attack on Camp Liberty
Oct 30, 2015 | Press Release
WASHINGTON – Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, today released the following statement regarding Thursday’s deadly missile attack on an Iraq war refugee camp:
"Yesterday's rocket attack on the unarmed population inside Camp Liberty was a reprehensible act of terrorism, reportedly leaving more than 20 people dead. The residents of Camp Liberty have been subject to violence, harassment, and ill treatment for years. The latest attack should come as no surprise.
“The Iraqi government has utterly failed in its obligation to protect the civilian residents. Indeed, those who launched the attack have no more moral standing than the genocidal Islamic State itself. The U.S. State Department must hold the Iraqi government accountable. If the safety of these displaced residents cannot be assured, the U.S. should act swiftly to see that they are resettled in third countries.
“It is a moral outrage that the residents have been left exposed to constant harassment and indiscriminate attacks year after year. The desire of the Mullah regime in Iran to attack Camp Liberty has never been in doubt. Lamentably, an attack of this type was foreseeable.”
