Iran: Clashes over water continued with at least 1 killed and about 200 wounded

Exclusive, July 20, 2016-Iranian state news agency revealed that clashes that started on Tuesday in the city of Boldaji, in Chahr-mahal-Bakhtiari province between residents and suppressive security forces have continued on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. The protest started when the news of diverting the only water canal that runs in that area by the regime authorities surfaced and people started to demonstrate against this corrupt scheme leaving residents without water for their agricultural purposes.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, IRGC, affiliated news agency, Fars,  reported that there are currently 16 different operational units involved in putting down the unrest in that city. The report indicates that so far as  this report has been receive, more than 180 people have been injured and at least one protester being killed by the security forces. Other local sources say that two persons have been killed and dozens arrested and taken to unknown locations.
AP also reported on July 19 that fighting broke out between supporters and opponents of a project to transfer water from the town of Boldaji to a steel mill some 600 kilometers (373 miles) south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
It says several cars were burnt by those opposing the project.
Some locals opposed the water transfer because they feared they did not have enough water to meet their needs. Iran is experiencing a drought, leading to water shortages across the country.
