Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 486 Cities Exceeds 220,200

  • Alireza Zali, head of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) in Tehran: The number of outpatients that was 28,000 in January has risen to 40,000 in February. The number of hospitalizations has increased significantly in February. (Hamshahri daily, February 22, 2021)
  • The fact that hospitals in Khuzestan Province are getting full one after another has caused more concerns. Officials in the Province suggested a two-week lockdown and quarantine to the NCCT, which was rejected at a meeting on Saturday. (ISNA news agency, February 23, 2021) 
  • Ilam University of Medical Sciences: 16 citizens of Dehloran are suspected of having British COVID-19, whose test was sent to the Pastor’s Laboratory. (Mehr news agency, February 22, 2021)

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, that the Coronavirus fatalities in 486 cities had exceeded 220,200. The number of victims in Tehran is 52,461, Khorasan Razavi 14,640, Isfahan 14,200, Khuzestan 11,300, Mazandaran 9,297, West Azerbaijan 8,203, Gilan 7,881, Fars 6,602, Golestan 5,720, Alborz 5,553, Sistan and Baluchestan 5,236, Hamedan 5,193, Central Province 4,418, Semnan 3,400, North Khorasan 3,383, Zanjan 2,400, and Bushehr 2,224.
