NCRI - An Iranian university has set up an exhibition to demonize PMOI opposition, the state-run news agency IRNA reported.
According to IRNA, the two-day event last week at Shahrood university, in the northern Seman Province, focused on the ‘dangers and negative effects” of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
The event was organized by the university’s ‘social and cultural affairs’ department which promotes the mullahs’ doctrine of fundamentalism and terrorism among students.
The anti-PMOI disinformation campaign is being partly masterminded by the Nejat Society, a branch of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS)
MOIS agents speaking at the event warned students of the dangers of Facebook and other social media, where strong support is often voiced for the PMOI.
The agents also warned that the PMOI ‘is trying to contact university students, pupils and journalists in an attempt to deceive them’.
The stat-run media outlets published re-run reports of the event stating that regime officials including military officials attended the event.
A similar event is planned for next week at the University of Seman.
Such exhibitions are being held at universities across the country at which MOIS show videos and distribute free brochures, books, and posters against the PMOI. The exhibitions are meant to discourage the ‘young generation especially students’ from joining the PMOI as popular discontent with the regime grows.
“The step up anti-PMOI public campaign has been triggered by the regime’s fears of mounting youth support for the main opposition group,” commented an informed observer.
An investigative report prepared by the Pentagon and the US Federal Research Division last year made striking revelations about the extent of the activities by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) against dissidents, in particular efforts to discredit the PMOI.
The report said: “The Iranian government considers Mojahedin-e-Khalq (PMOI/MEK) to be the organization that most threatens the Islamic Republic of Iran. One of the main responsibilities of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security is to conduct covert operations against Mojahedin-e-Khalq and to identify and eliminate its members.”
