Iran: 25 Kurdish pol prisoners sentenced to total of 56 years behind bars

                 Kurdish crackdown increasing in Iran under Rouhani

Currently there at least 25 Kurdish citizens detained in Mahabad Prison and most of them are in prison for their membership in Kurdish parties opposing the Iranian regime.
1- Yahiya Sarkhani – arrested in July 2012 and sentenced to 7 years in prison. His sentence was later lowered in a West Azerbaijan Province appeals court to 3 years and 6 months.
2- Omar Monajemi-rod – arrested in 2011 on security charges. He then received a ten year sentence in Mahabad Revolution Court.
3- Jamal Ghadernezhad – college student from Mahabad / arrested on 14 June 2012 under the pretext of membership in opposition Kurdish parties. He was sentenced to five years in prison by Mahabad Revolution Court. He was a social sciences student in Payam-e Noor University in the city of Mindo Ab.
4- Massoud Kordpur – journalist and renowned cultural activist in Kurdistan. He was arrested on 9March 20 13 in his hometown and after spending 8 months in prison he was finally charged with holding gatherings and collusion against the state, and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in jail.
5- Vahed Seyede – from the city of Mahabad / This labor activist was arrested in January 2013 in his hometown and in September 2013 he was condemned to 2 years in jail by this city’s so-called revolution court.

6- Yousef Ab Kharabat – labor activist arrested in January 2013 and on 9 September 2013 he was sentenced to 2 years in prison by the Mahabad Revolution Court.
7- Mahmoud Molanaie – labor activist arrested in January 2013 by the Mahabad Intelligence Department, and thus sentenced to one year in jail by Iran’s judiciary system.
8- Kave Salak – arrested in October 2011 by Iranian security forces and later on sentenced to 8 years in prison on charges of cooperation with Kurdish opposition parties.
9- Loghman Salak – arrested on 13 December 2011 in his home town and then sentenced to 4 years in prison on charges of cooperation with Kurdish opposition parties.
10- Omar Pirnia – arrested and sentenced to 6 years in jail on charges of spying for the US and Israel.
11- Ghasem Ahmadi – cultural activist and journalist – arrested in February 2013 and then temporarily released on a 500 million rial bail. The Mahabad Revolution Court sentenced him to 5 years behind bars for actions against national security. An appeals court reduced his term to 2 years.
12- Farough Samani/ artist – state police arrested him in Mahabad back in February 2013 and then Iran’s judiciary apparatus sentenced him to 5 years behind bars for his cooperation with Kurdish opposition parties. This ruling was upheld in a West Azerbaijan Province appeals court.
13- Rahim Darvishi – arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents back in January 2013.
14- Ibrahim Ghadir-far – religious activist / in October 2011 he was sentenced to 3 years behind bars.
15- Rahim Rashi – this Kurdish citizen has been detained in Mahabad Central Prison due to the fact that his child is a member of a Kurdish party.
16- Khaled Poorghader – this Kurdish citizen was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents back in March 2011 under the pretext of political activities. He is currently a political prisoner.
17- Hossein Pour Mostafa Aghdam – arrested by Mahabad Intelligence Department in May of this year and is currently detained in Mahabad Central Prison.
18- Younes Aghayan Alibgu – arrested and sentenced to death in 2004 on the charge of ‘moharebe’ (enmity against God). The related ruling was approved in a West Azerbaijan Province appeals court.
19- Mostafa Faghih – this Kurdish citizen was arrested in 2012 on charges of cooperating with Kurdish opposition groups and the Mahabad Central Court sentenced him to 5 years behind bars.
Five other Kurdish political prisoners by the names of Suran Ramezanpoor, Nozad Parvane, Omar Shekar, Armin Zarinpoor, Rahmat Hosseinian, Hassan Abdullahpoor are detained in Mahabad Central Prison, and the main reason for their detention and the duration of their ruling remains unknown.
