Iran: Female University students protest

University students protest fraudulent administrators and government officials

A group of female university students in the city of Qazveen, north of the capital Tehran, demonstrated on Thursday, Jan. 14th in front of the local governorate office. The protest gathering was to show the student's frustration at poor health and maintenance services of the university and the dormitories. The protesting students said that despite their repeated complaints to the university authorities to take some action, the government officials and their representatives in the University ignored their grievances.
The students were carrying posters and placards saying 'what happened to our petitions', 'Fazeli must set down' [referring to the University director], 'students have been kicked out of dorms', and 'dormitory managements are frauds.'
Students from a number of colleges including Imam Khomeini College, Raja College and Kar University took part in this rally.
Sources within the university administration reveal that one of government officials in charge of the dorm project collected between 5 to 6 million Iranian tomans (about $2000) from each student to renovate and rebuild the old dormitory, but escaped with the money.
