A number of political prisoners in Gohardasht prison have written an open letter addressed to the Iranian people defending Ahmad Shaheed, the UN special Rapporteur’s report on human rights violations in Iran.
The letter in part reads: ’The report by Mr. Ahmad Shaheed contains a variety of issues including inhumane mass executions, undignified and brutal torture, arbitrary street arrests and even denying the basic citizen’s rights. We believe that this 36-page report by Mr. Shaheed reflects only a small portion of the clerical regime’s overt and covert showcase of brutalities and criminalities.
Therefore, we the political prisoners not only reiterate and support the contents of this report, but also ask the UN to investigate Iran’s human rights dossier independent of the its’ nuclear and state terrorism files.’
This letter has been signed by 9 prominent political prisoners.
