Iran coronavirus update: Over 244,800 deaths, highest number of new cases in one day

Iran, April 6, 2021—Over 244,800 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 535 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Tuesday afternoon local time, April 6. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 63,506 around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 56,301 in Tehran, 15,960 in Isfahan, 15,785 in Razavi Khorasan, 14,549 in Khuzestan, 10,445 in Mazandaran, 10,343 in Lorestan, 9823 in East Azerbaijan, 9178 in West Azerbaijan, 8755 in Qom, 8581 in Gilan, 7182 in Fars, 6083 in Alborz, 5641 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 558 in Hamedan, 4884 in Kermanshah, 4409 in Yazd, 4290 in Semnan, 2774 in Qazvin, 2750 in Hormozgan, and 2501 in Ilam. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Tuesday as 17,430 new cases for the first time since the pandemic began, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency. This is 25 percent more than the 14,051 cases reported on November 27 of last year being the highest such figure during Iran’s third peak. “The spread of Covid-19 in our country has been very expansive and concerning. The fourth peak of this illness is advancing at a high speed and spreading from the western parts of the country to the east,” she added.

“Next week will be an extremely difficult week in Tehran. The recent experience in Khuzestan with the mutated strain will repeat in the country’s capital,” said Alireza Zali following the emergency session of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday. “The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients has reached 4400 in this province and 1120, meaning around 25 percent, are in ICUs. In the past 14 months there has never been such a record registered in Tehran province. This is a concerning sign for the coming days. One in every two suspicious patients have a positive PCR test. If we take into consideration the false negative results, the true figure goes even higher. Unfortunately, yesterday we lost 56 Tehran residents to Covid-19. We have had coronavirus deaths in nearly all parts of Tehran. We are suggesting a seven-to-ten-day lockdown of Tehran province and we have placed this plan before the First Vice President, and the Interior and Health ministers,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“In every 24 hours 1000 coronavirus patients are hospitalized in Tehran province. Around 5000 people with Covid-19 symptoms are seeking medical attention each day and 103 of the 175 hospitals across the province are engaged with Covid-19. We are forced to cancel elective medical treatments in the main and general centers,” said the deputy chair of Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday.

“300 patients with Covid-19 symptoms are seeking medical attention each day. With the increase in the number of people hospitalized we are forced to turn ordinary sections into Covid-19 branches. We were expecting for Tehran to be under lockdown, but this decision has yet to be made,” said the dean of Tehran’s Baghiatollah University on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Saeed Khalkhal, head of Tehran’s famous Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery said on Tuesday that his staff is now on high alert. Back in November of last year the number of deaths in Tehran would reach 400, which is 150 percent more than the death rate prior to Covid-19, he added, according to the state-run Vatan-e Emrouz daily.

“1838 coronavirus patients are hospitalized in Khuzestan province, of which 407 are in ICUs. 96 percent of the beds allocated to Covid-19 patients have been filled. After we reached the 1800 coronavirus patients mark in Khuzestan province, there is no longer any beds for these patients and we only have 50 to 100 empty beds left,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“3500 new coronavirus cases have been identified in the past two days and the Hazrat-e Ali Asghar and Faghihi hospitals are packed. Currently coronavirus patients are being sent to Chamran Hospital. Furthermore, Dastgheib Hospital, set to be a backup facility for Covid-19, has been prepared once again to provide medical care,” said the dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“During the past 24 hours there have been 241 new Covid-19 cases, of which 992 were hospitalized. 186 patients are in ICUs,” according to a Tuesday report wired by the IRGC-linked Fars news agency.

“Unfortunately, in the past 24 hours we have 156 new coronavirus patients hospitalized and 18 of them are in dire conditions. In total we have 540 coronavirus patients hospitalized,” said the director of Gilan Health Center on Tuesday, according to the Fars news agency.

“With 14 coronavirus deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 victims in this province stands at 2943,” said the dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

Madam Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), stressed that the new wave of COVID, which is claiming more and more victims every day, is the result of the criminal policies of the mullahs’ regime, and before anyone else, the regime’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, is responsible for these deaths. Khamenei has cruelly banned the import of the American and British vaccines, while on the other he has hijacked billions of dollars’ worth of the people’s wealth through his economic institutions, and he has done nothing to help workers and other impoverished segments of the society to provide their basic needs during the coronavirus outbreak.
