Social media filtering increasing in Iran under Rouhani
A list of repressive regimes that block social media on the Internet for their citizens has been published recently, with the Iranian regime ranked as one of the most oppressive regimes blocking social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for their citizens. According to the “Mother Jones” website that has published this list, following the controversial election of 2009, these networks have to this day witnessed widespread filtering and … the window of access has gotten tighter and tighter.
This report stipulates with Rouhani coming to power the issue of filtering social media networks has seen no change at all, while this report also refers to ordinary Iranians bypassing and neutralizing the regime’s filtering.
Despite this massive crackdown, Iranian users are using existing technology to pass filtering and still have a significant presence on social media networks, the report says.
