Ileana Ros-Lehtinen,Chairwoman of the US House Middle East and N. Africa Subcommittee, emphasized one year after Rouhani’s hollow promises of reform, the human rights situation in Iran remains atrocious. In a speech delivered at the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing she said the list of brutal and inhumane human rights violations continuing under Rouhani’s (presidency) appears to be endless.
During Rouhani’s watch over 670 people have been executed and over 900 political prisoners remain behind bars, she said, adding according to various human rights organizations the Iranian regime has executed an average of one person a day in 2014 and many of them are political prisoners or members of various ethnic groups.
Under Rouhani the Iranian regime continues to deny freedom of speech, press and association.
