Scottish lawmaker condemns human rights abuses in Iran - Daily Record

Scottish MP Martyn Day has supported the cause of establishing human rights in Iran, the Daily Record and Sunday Mail reported on Sunday.
As part of Human Rights Day on December 10, Martyn Day, Member of Parliament for Linlithgow and East Falkirk, was given the opportunity to speak at a conference in the UK Parliament focusing on human rights in Iran, the paper wrote, adding:
This event, highlighting the UN resolution condemning the systematic human rights abuses taking place in Iran, was attended by many people, including some members of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and was an opportunity to highlight what the UK can do to stand by the victims of these abuses, not just in Iran, but across the globe.
Speaking during the conference, Martyn Day said: “These human rights abuses have been ongoing since the 1979 Iranian Revolution. These methods are used as a tool to overcome opposition to the ruling parties, and an end must be sought.
"This UN resolution is a great step forward in tackling these issues, but more must be done, not only in Iran but across the world, where many people live in fear of oppression. The cause has cross-party support across both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and shows that the Government must do more to raise these issues with Tehran, in order to see an end to the human rights abuses suffered at the hands of a regime built on fear.”
