Iran: Number of women heading households is rising

The number of female heads of household is rising while their age is declining.
This comment was made by the General Director of Isfahan’s Welfare Organization.
Saeed Sadeqi said there were 10,000 women heading households in Isfahan, with whose families their numbers exceed 32,000.
Another astounding figure revealed by Sadeqi was the amount of money some of these women receive from the government. He said: According to a ruling ratified in 2005, these women are supposed to receive a monthly aid equivalent to one-third of the minimum workers wage, but they only receive between 53 to 100,000 toumans ($17 – 33) a month.
Considering that the poverty line in Iran is 2.5 million toumans ($8300) a month, one can imagine how these women are running their families with only $30 a month.
