Iran: 150 yarn factory workers protest demanding job security

Workers protesting in Iran

Some 150 workers of Parand Yarn Factory gathered outside the industry complex in the city of Kashan, central Iran, planning to hold a protest rally. However, the police – already on high alert due to the upcoming sham twin elections on February 26th – intervened and prevented the workers from holding their rally.
Nearly 200 to 250 workers of this factory have been laid from work, one worker said. They have taken letters or requests to a bank to finalize the status of this factory and/or receive their demands, yet each time they return without any answers. It is worth noting this factory has around 400 employees working on 3 shifts. It also had a large number of personnel, around 250, who are now out of work and due to the recession throughout Iran they have not been able to find jobs in other factories. Many of these workers are seen selling goods on the streets and taking other jobs to make ends meet for their families.
