Iran: jail term and lashing for an artist


Crackdown of artists  in Iran

Tehran’s appeals court has sentenced Keivan Karimi, a 30-year-old cinema director to 223 lashes, a 200 million rial fine (around $$5,715) and 1 year behind bars. The lawyer of this filmmaker was informed of this ruling on February 20.
The charges raised against Karimi are propaganda against the state and insulting the sanctities. The latter charge is due to one of his films by the name of “Writing Across the City” that was never actually shown in cinemas.
