Iran: huge challenge for women trying to open special business centers

Gender segregation in Iran

Gender segregation started decades ago in busses when the regime ordered men and women sitting on opposite sides of the bus when traveling in local or out of town busses, according to the state-run rouydad.24.ir website.
Technological advances came to Tehran’s doorsteps and gender segregation reached the point of being implemented in special wagons for women in trains. Later down the road were the parks and green areas across various cities.
Now efforts have reached the city council and in an open session the issue of constructing special business centers for women was discussed. Such talks go as far as erecting walls in the minds of boys and girls, and they come to believe they are completely different from one another.
Creating exclusive atmospheres in any form for men and women means separatiion and gender segregation. Gender segregation means completely forgetting half of Iran’s society.
