Prisoners face new restrictions in contacting their families

Prisoners detained in Qezel-Hessar, Gohardasht and Fashafouyeh prisons protested new restrictions imposed on telephone contacts with their families.

Prison authorities are planning to launch a system to impose more restrictions on prisoners. Among them is a form handed out to prisoners to fill in with five telephone numbers. As a result, the prisoners are obliged to contact only the five numbers they have listed on the form. Prisoners indicate that the plan is a fraud intended to take advantage of prisoners and their families.

According to this plan, prisoners are obliged to pay 2,000 toumans for every telephone card, and more than 120,000 toumans for every minute of contact. This is a new business for prison authorities to plunder the prisoners who are not able to provide for the minimum needs of their families.
