Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll Exceeds 11,900 in 224 Cities
The Peoples Mojahedin Organization of Iran announced on Thursday that the coronavirus death toll has risen to more than 11,900 in 224 cities across Iran. Despite rising fatalities, Hassan Rouhani continues to lie. On Thursday, he shamelessly said, “We have prepared all hospital beds across the country. Around 13,000 of these beds have not been used so far… I don’t think any other country has a situation like Iran … we have about 20,000 empty hospital beds.” Addressing Rouhani, Mohammad Reza Najafi, one of the regime's parliament deputy, wrote, “Your approach to managing the current crisis is different from many experts. There is hardly any other country with such (high) tolls that acts so primitively. Thus, the second wave of the (Coronavirus) outbreak, which will hit in early April (after Nowruz holidays), will be more severe, deeper with longer impact than anticipated. The negligence will have its consequences also in the future”. Coronavirus Fatalities on the Rise in Iran’s Prisons Coronavirus fatalities are on the rise in Iran’s prisons. The number of prisoners suspected or infected with coronavirus have been increasing as the regime refuses to provide prisoners with the means to protect themselves. There have been at least six coronavirus fatalities in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary since the onset of the outbreak in Iran. According to reports, wards in GTP lack sanitary and hygienic supplies. The only available detergent in the prison is dishwashing liquid. Prisoners are in poor psychological conditions. Iran: Rights Activist Detained Amid Coronavirus Outbreak Sepideh Farhan, a civil rights activist held in Evin Prison, has been deprived of leave despite the Coronavirus outbreak and a promise of temporary release made last week by prison authorities. Her family posted a bail on March 18 to secure her release, but Judiciary officials and prison authorities have refused to grant her leave since then.
