Iran political prisoner’s health in dire condition after surgery

An urgent health condition arose for political prisoner Alireza Golipour in ward 7 of Tehran’s Evin Prison forcing him to undergo surgery on Sunday, January 31 after his physical conditions deteriorated.
After being diagnosed with cancer he was initially placed under surgery in a hospital belonging to the Revolutionary Guards. 24 hours after the tumor was removed and a heart stent he was immediately transferred back to prison. However, on the night of Sunday, January 31 his conditions deteriorated and was transferred to a hospital under the supervision of the Ministry of Intelligence where he was placed under surgery.
Golipour is amongst the prisoners that has endured long periods of interrogation and torture in solitary confinement, and his family is constantly placed under pressure and harassment.
Prior to this on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 security agents from Evin Prison went to the location where he was held and after completely searching his belongings he was blindfolded and transferred to the prison’s counterintelligence section. He was placed under interrogation and severely beaten. Golipour has been charged with having contact with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
