The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran announced on March 31, that the coronavirus death toll in 237 cities across Iran has risen to more than 14,700. The new cases of Coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, according to the Iranian Regime’s Ministry of Health is 3111 and the number of deaths put at 141. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran said: "The clerical regime did not face any obstacles or prohibitions in purchasing or importing medicine or medical equipment, but instead of being concerned about people’s lives, they are rather concerned about sanctions imposed on their own money." Prisoners Rebel in Southwest Iran Over Coronavirus Outbreak Prisoners at the Sheiban Prison of Ahvaz rebelled and clashed with prison guards on Tuesday. Inmates were protesting lack of hygiene supplies and the coronavirus epidemic. The unrest followed a riot in the city’s Sepidar Prison by inmates fearing coronavirus outbreak. During the protests, sounds of shooting could be heard and a thick smoke could be seen arising from the prison building. The prison compound was surrounded by security forces and several ambulances were also seen leaving as gunfire and tear gas were reported from inside the facility. Iran: Teacher and Other Activists Condemned to Lengthy Prison Hashem Khastar, the representative of the Iranian Teachers Association in Khorassan Razavi province, received a final verdict by a court in the north-eastern city of Mashhad, condemning him to 16 years in prison and a further two-year exile term for his political activities. Three other activists received long term prisons for having asked Ali Khamenei, the mullahs’ supreme leader, to step down. NCRI’s President-elect Maryam Rajavi qualified such brutal verdicts, especially at a time when all prisoners have to be immediately released because of the coronavirus infection, clear examples of the atrocity of the religious supreme leader and his chief justice. She urged the UN High Commissionaire for Human Rights as well as the UN Special rapporteur for Iran to intervene to demand the release of these prisoners whose lives are in danger.
