Poverty amongst women in Iran was the topic of discussion aired in a recent state-run TV channel in Iran.
“The number of poor women who seek aid is increasing each year. Around 1.1 million single mothers are currently in need of aid,” said Ali Mohammad Zolfaghari, deputy chair of the Aid Committee.
“This year 81% of women in single-parent families suffered the death of their spouses, 14% were due to divorces, 1% due to separations and 4% due to other factors. Over 40% of women seeking help at the Aid Committee are illiterate.
