Ezzat al-Molut Taheri, the mother of prisoner of conscience Mohammad Ali Taheri, called for the release of her son and emphasized he has done nothing wrong
Azardokht Taheri, his sister, says all her brother’s activities in the field of theosophy, teachings and forensics were with official permits and his family never expected him to be sentenced to death.
“They arrested Taheri’s wife to place him under pressure. With all this psychological pressure, when they insult his wife before his eyes and threatened her, it is very difficult. It is difficult for any human being. He has committed suicide four times, not because he cannot tolerate prison conditions. Just for his child and for his wife. He says leave my 8-year old child out of this and don’t threaten to kill the child… they have even tortured his students before his very eyes,” she added.
“Some people were provided money or forced to testify against Taheri. Then those same people officially declared their testimonies were lies and they took them back. All of this has been recorded in the files. This evidence shows there is no plaintiff or witness, and everyone has written and signed that their testimonies were lies,” Taheri’s sister continued.
Taheri has been in prison since May 4, 2011. He wrote in a letter to Ahmad Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran saying he was thrown to jail “under the fabricated charges of apostasy, ‘enmity against God’ and his prophet, insulting sanctities, ‘corruption on earth, and insulting Prophet Mohammad.”
